Girls Create is a mentoring program not only for play writing, but for dance and fashion too. The program teaches girls (6th through 10th grade) various aspects of these performing art forms in a unique way–we prioritize on bringing in professionals from the community to teach the program, guest artists to share their expertise and utilize mentors also from the community to provide guidance to the girls and encourage their own creations.

13139362_995337270552545_7779703447422907265_nEach week long program culminates in a final project for the week where we invite the community, including friends and family of the girls, to see their work. Girls Create will take place this summer in collaboration with Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, (RMCAD), Bella Diva Dance, and Communitas Studios. Girls who participate in the summer camps may have their work selected to be featured in our Girls Create Celebration during the 2018 Athena Project Arts Festival and the opportunity to continue to work on their art with a mentor between the summer camp and the March Festival if desired.

Do you want to be a World Citizen?

“Dance as a World Language”

Body language and expressive arts
connect people across national and
cultural boundaries. In this class, we
celebrate how our bodies speak and
express emotion. We will explore how
movement can increase your ability to
communicate – a skill that will serve
you, your relationships, and your community
throughout your life.
We will create our own unique dance
influenced by dances from around the
world. This class is well-suited for those
who have an interest in dance but feel
hesitant or anxious about moving in
front of others. We will finish the day with
new confidence, embodied freedom,
and a connection with one another.

*Spend the day with Erin Anderson – Erin loves to support girls in self-expression, increased confidence and body friendship. In college, Erin focused on how dance is used as communication and expression in different cultures around the world. She went on to study how dance and movement help communities heal from difficult experiences, as well as celebrate together. As a dance/movement therapist, she worked with children and adolescents at Children’s Hospital Colorado. She helps young people recognize that their bodies are powerful – bodies express, bodies communicate and when we have friendship with our bodies, we can interact with each other in different and meaningful ways. Studies show that young people who are body-positive are happier, stronger, and even more successful. Join us at the Day of Girls Dance!
